One of my favourite things about living at [The Ascent](https://www.iconinc.co.uk/locations/liverpool-the-ascent) is the luxury of having my own kitchen and bathroom, all in one private space (my apartment). It’s great for when you just need some alone time, and for the days you want to hide from the world and recover from a nightmare hangover. But there’s just one teeny tiny downside to this privilege – it’s easy to get into the habit of staying in your apartment because everything you need is right there for you. Luckily, I’ve made a great group of new friends here at IconInc, and we love to hang out in the communal lounge together, so I’ve never been tempted to hide away.

So here are my tips for making new friends at IconInc:

    Knock around nearby apartments

I know this might sound daunting but it’s worthwhile in the long run – promise! Take a walk around your floor and knock on your neighbours’ doors. Students do this at university owned accommodation and people do it when they move to a new house so why not do that here? I’ve made some great friends by doing this and, even if you don’t become best friends, it makes those awkward moments of bumping into each other in the corridor much more comfortable. Who wouldn’t be grateful that their neighbour had the confidence to reach out and actually make the effort? Why not pluck up the courage and give it a go?

    Go along to events

The exclusive IconInc monthly events are a great excuse to socialise and meet new people. And there’s always something different to get stuck into like chocolate making masterclasses, trips out to escape rooms, parties and movie nights. They say that trying a new hobby is a great way to make friends so here’s your perfect opportunity. I had great fun at the Welcome Week Tropical Fiesta Party in September and met lots of new first years. You can find out about upcoming events, [here](https://www.iconinc.co.uk/our-community/events).
