Dec, '15Leeds is a growing city that has transformed into an urban metropolis, with a distinctive cosmopolitan vibe.
Home to around 777,000 people and counting, and the third biggest city in the UK, Leeds is a popular choice to live for good reason.
Two Leeds suburbs were recently named among the best places to live in Britain in 2014. Last year, Leeds move into the top ten destinations in the UK on TripAdvisor, based on reviews by the general public. The city is constantly expanding and being gifted with new facilities. The council states that ‘Leeds’ vision is to become the best city in the UK by 2030.’
Leeds is considered the cultural and shopping capital of the North by many.The city is home to the only other UK Harvey Nichols outside London. It's a lovely place to live, study and work, with amazing vintage shops, cute cafes, cool jazz bars, wine and cocktail venues, and an array of restaurants. It’s an inspiring city, there’s always something going on, from live music gigs and festivals to sports events. You will never be short of things to do and see in Leeds.
There's the old corn exchange which is a beautiful building worth poking your nose in plus a handful of museums and galleries to fulfil any cultural desires. The Ilkley Moor, Bolton Abbey and the Yorkshire Dales are also on your doorstep and perfect for getting out of the city.
You can easily retreat to the countryside for a short break if you need to get out of the city for a few days thanks to the stunning countryside and historic sites on your doorstep. If you don’t fancy living in the city centre, there are lots of lovely suburbs within easy reach of the centre.
Leeds also has great transport links to the rest of the UK. You can hop on a train to nearby cities such as York, Sheffield, Manchester and Liverpool. The city also has an international airport which flies all over the world, and it’s close to major motorways such as the M62, M1, A1, A64.
Leeds is a fairly compact city, many of the main attractions are walking distance apart. You can walk from one end of the city to the other and see most of the main sights. It’s a city that you can enjoy on foot, but if you are feel lazy, the excellent public transport system will get you around the city just fine.
There are plenty of job opportunities in Leeds. The city is home to many major industries including transport, legal, publishing, education, medical, financial and the creative and digital industries. It’s a city with excellent prospects and a wide range of opportunities for newcomers.
The locals are very friendly and proud to call Leeds their home. There really is something for everyone in leeds, whether you enjoy shopping, culture, history, sport or a good night out, you will feel at home in Leeds. It's a really fantastic city to live and study in.
