We hope you enjoyed all that Fresher’s Week entails; new people, parties, lots of takeaways and oh yeah, enrolling at university for the first time.

Now that’s all over with, it’s time to get your head in the game. We are less than three months away from Christmas and exams will creep up on us before we know it. Here are our top tips for how to manage your work, and life in general, to make sure you keep on top of things.

    1. Getting the right stationery

First things first, go to Wilkinson (if you are new to ‘Wilko’, it is the student go-to for almost everything, apart from groceries!) and grab yourself some notebooks, highlighters, coloured page dividers, and some sticky notes - the small sticky tabs are brilliant for marking books!

    1. Colour coding

Everyone takes notes at lectures and most of the time, they don’t re-read them until it comes to exam time, by which point they might as well be written in a foreign language. Why not try colour coding your notes, so that you actually find them useful, for example:

Pink: A theory, someone’s opinion on a subject

Green: To do, get onto this when you get home

    Blue: Read up on this

Yellow: I don’t have a clue what this means, follow up with lecturer

Type the notes up and re-read them so that you’re not just wasting your time!

    1. Sleep schedule

Sleep is important. We need on average 8 hours per night, so try and get those precious hours in. But be aware, emerging late afternoon after a strong 12 hours sleep may leave you feeling over tired and lethargic (not to mention cutting your day short).

    1. Budgeting

You could be ultra-organised and set up an excel document with all of your incomings and outgoings but we advise you calculate your monthly allowance and set yourself a budget for food, travel, socialising etc to ensure you don’t accidentally overspend.

    1. Study time

That’s what we’re here for after all! Allocate yourself set study time each week so you keep on top of your work and ensure it doesn’t interfere with your all important social life. Nobody wants to be the person pulling all-nighters in the library before a deadline plus at IconInc, our private study rooms mean you don’t even have to take your slippers off. If you get in the routine of preparing for seminars and coursework, it’ll allow you to really enjoy your free time without those deadlines weighing on your mind.

    1. Housework

You can save time and money by doing a big food shop once a week, rather than day by day.

Write a shopping list or order online and get it delivered straight to the apartments. Dedicate a day a week to clean and spruce up your apartment or take advantage of the cleaning and laundry services at The Edge.

    1. And, breathe...

Now that your life is ship shape, get yourself down to the cinema or games room and have some time with your friends. It is important to unwind after working hard, so make sure you fit in some time to enjoy the facilities at The Edge.
