Having followed the National Football League up until the Super Bowl stage this year, my friends and I thought it was only right to celebrate in the best way we knew how, with a BBQ! We have quite a few American students living at [The Edge](https://www.iconinc.co.uk/locations/leeds-the-edge), and both international and UK students, who are all fans of the sport. And even for the few who aren’t such big fans but like to cook, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to socialise and bond over some delicious international dishes.

A BBQ in winter – why not?!

Earlier in the day, we worked out who would cook what to bring along to the pre-game BBQ. My boyfriend isn’t the best cook (sorry, you know it’s true babe!), took care of buying some desserts instead of making them. Others amongst us made some dishes from our home countries, for example our Indian friend made a delicious Biryani and our American friend made a tasty Macaroni and Cheese. We also made some burgers using the outdoor BBQ in the courtyard of our building. It was really cold, but we soon warmed up by the smoky fire of the BBQ. It was great fun as we were chatting and listening to music while making our own burgers just the way we wanted with salads and sauces. It was a great way to spend some time with our friends from IconInc, as well as bringing our friends from university who also enjoyed the National Football League (and some good BBQ food of course!).

    Before the game

Once we were done with the burgers, at around 6pm, we made our way downstairs into the lobby where we sat and chatted for a little while and listened to music. Some of us were so full we ended up taking a little nap as we had a few hours to spare before the Super Bowl began at 11.30pm. And yes, we’re students so it’s totally acceptable to have a nap!
