Moving into Iconinc - From a student’s perspective

Before moving into Iconinc this September, I was so anxious about the sheer amount of new experiences I’d be jumping into. Starting at a new university, in a new city, with new people in a new living space. Change can be scary for a lot of people, it definitely is for me; thankfully though, as soon as I moved in I realised I’d chosen a student accommodation where I’d be able to enjoy myself to the fullest. The booking process was smooth; I’d already done a viewing at The Glassworks and saw that the facilities were far better than any place I’d been before. My favourite aspect going in was the communal areas; the games rooms, the cinema, the lounges; I felt like they’d be the perfect spots to take friends, and the perfect social buffers to make friends- and now I know I was right! The moving-in process was so simple; I checked in with the concierge team at reception (did you know, they are on-site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week?!) and they walked me through the safety procedures and handed me the key to my new apartment! Me and my parents loaded up the luggage cart with my 100’s of bags (maybe an exaggeration, but I do think I packed enough stuff for a family of five…) and got to unpacking. The first couple of days I spent my time setting up my student apartment and exploring the city. Making my apartment feel tidy and homely was easy because regardless of how much I had brought with me, there seemed to be space for everything and then some! The city centre is a short walk away from the Iconinc student accommodation in Leeds, or an even shorter bus ride. I did a quick walk to my campus too to get my bearings, and it was so simple- it’s basically one straight road to get there! After settling in properly, I had time to go to an event, and since then, I’ve been meeting with other students living in Iconinc from all over the world and it’s amazing how well everyone gets on. I cannot wait to make friends from all over the world! When I’m bored in the afternoon, we will go out and explore the city! Too tired to cook in the evening? No problem- we’re cooking a group dinner in the mega kitchen! And once exam season starts up I’m sure we’ll be taking advantage of all the study spaces. The Iconinc community really does feel like a family. The staff are helpful but also seem to enjoy their time with the students and genuinely care. The sense of belonging here has eased my transition into this new chapter of life in ways I couldn't have anticipated. As I look back on my initial anxieties, it's clear that I made the right choice choosing to live in the student accommodation at Iconinc. I couldn’t be happier with my decision! Iconinc has not only provided me with a comfortable and convenient place to live but has also become the cornerstone of my university experience, offering a vibrant and inclusive environment that has transformed my apprehension into excitement. I'm looking forward to the rest of my time here, cherishing the memories I'll create and the friendships I'll continue to build in this wonderful place I now call home.
