We caught up with Rachel, our Gravity Team Manager, to find out more about her and her role! Tell us about your role at IconInc in one sentence: In a nutshell, my job is to make sure that our students are safe, happy and have an absolutely incredible time living with us at Iconinc! Simples! What’s a typical day at IconInc for you? I’ve just opened our brand new site Gravity in Lincoln so I’ve been pretty busy to say the least! There is no “typical” day for me at the moment. My favourite days so far were definitely our check ins, when we welcomed our students to their new home! What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most? I’m definitely a people person, so my favourite part of my job is meeting so many amazing new people and getting to know them throughout their stay with us. We have students living with us from every corner of the world! So learning about their different cultures and backgrounds is always so interesting. What’s the craziest thing you’ve got involved with at IconInc? I absolutely loved our Pet Therapy event back in February at The Ascent in Liverpool. We arranged for a few therapy dogs to come to the main lounge area and it was just the best afternoon spending time with them! Our students absolutely loved it! What did you study at University and did you think it would lead to a role like this? I didn’t go to university. I left college at 18 and went into Hospitality Management working my way up the ranks in high end hotels and restaurants. I then packed it all in and went off to travel the world for 6 months, an experience I will never forget. When I returned to the UK, I then went into Property Management in the student accommodation sector and have been doing this now for almost 3 years! There are a lot of similarities between managing hotels and student accommodation properties, so I’m so glad that this path has lead me to Iconinc! Which IconInc facility could you not live without? The Caffeine Bar for sure!! Couldn’t survive without my coffee in a morning! You’ve got the private cinema to yourself for the evening, what would you be watching? Pretty Woman, every day. What’s your spirit animal? I’m obsessed with anything leopard print at the moment, so I’d have to say a leopard! What do you do to relax in your spare time? I’m a home-bird, so love being at home on the sofa, candles lit, watching a film on the TV with a glass of wine in hand. Tell us 3 things that might surprise us about you: I’ve swam with sharks, I’ve flown a helicopter and my friends say I make the best ever chocolate brownies! What’s your go to midnight snack from the pantry? I’ve got a sweet tooth, so I’d say a Kinder Bueno and a nice hot fruit tea.
