Driving Sustainability Forward: Iconinc's Eco-Efforts in Action

As the global call for environmental responsibility grows louder, Iconinc remains steadfast in our commitment to sustainability. Since opening our first site in 2015, we have seen many changes in the world, in its attitudes towards environmental awareness, and technological advancements. We believe that adaptation is key, so we aren’t afraid to change for the better! Here's a glimpse into the impactful measures we've taken to minimise our ecological footprint and pave the way for a greener future:

1. Say Goodbye to Disposable Coffee Cups

Iconinc has bid farewell to disposable coffee cups, eliminating the use of thousands of single-use waste per week across our properties! Instead, we've equipped tenants with reusable travel mugs crafted from recycled metal. Each of our purchases of the Mr. Bamboo Cup not only promotes waste reduction but also contributes to reforestation efforts, with one tree planted for every cup bought. We love providing our tenants with free hot drinks and the best service, but never at the detriment of the planet! 

2. Harnessing Solar Power

In our ongoing pursuit of renewable energy, we've expanded solar panel installations across several Iconinc sites, including Glassworks, Edge, and Gravity systems. Over the past 18 months, these installations have made a significant impact, reducing our carbon emissions by nearly 163 tonnes of CO2. While the Ascent does not yet have solar panels it remains one of our most energy-efficient buildings thanks to thoughtful design considerations.

3. Smart Heating Solutions

At Iconinc Gravity, we've upgraded heating systems in all 134 original rooms, replacing them with smarter, energy-efficient alternatives. This switch not only reduces energy usage but also enhances resident comfort, demonstrating our commitment to sustainability without compromising on quality.

4. Waste Reduction Initiatives

We've implemented cardboard recycling programs at Gravity and Ascent, with plans for further expansion. While council restrictions have temporarily halted progress in Leeds, we remain dedicated to minimising waste and maximising recycling efforts across all our properties.

5. Energy-Efficient Building Design

From inception, Iconinc sites are meticulously designed with efficiency in mind. Features such as PIR lights, scheduled air conditioning controls, and individual room controls ensure optimal energy usage while maintaining resident comfort. We're constantly seeking new ways to enhance efficiency and reduce our environmental impact.

6. Embracing Smart Technologies

Iconinc is at the forefront of innovation, trialling and implementing smart technologies to control and manage heating within our apartments. This year, we'll be rolling out these advancements across our entire portfolio, further enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability.

7. Investing in Electric Vehicle Infrastructure

As part of our commitment to sustainable travel, we're expanding our electric vehicle charging network across all locations with car parks. Wherever local energy capacity permits, we'll continue to invest in infrastructure that encourages eco-friendly transportation options.

8. Paperless Operations

We're taking significant steps towards a paper-free future by transitioning all compliance and facilities management tasks to a cloud-based platform. This move not only reduces paper waste but also streamlines operations and enhances efficiency.

9. Transparency and Accountability

Most importantly, we're committed to transparency and accountability. This year, we'll be producing our first-ever Carbon Report for Iconinc, offering tenants insight into our environmental impact at a property level. By fostering transparency, we empower our residents to make informed decisions and join us in our sustainability journey.
